BENJAMIN WRIGHT – The Father of American Civil Engineering Starting as a frontier land surveyor in upstate New York, Benjamin Wright went on to not only survey, but DESIGN, the most important civil engineering projects of early America. He created a transportation system in the United States England’s. After learning math, surveying and law from an uncle, young Benjamin was hired to stake-out small canals in the Mowhawk Vallley. So well did he master the science of canal design, his next appointment was Chief Engineer for the new 363-mile Erie Canal. After that he went on to design the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal across Maryland and DC, the St. Lawrence Ship Canal, railroads, New York City’s streets and countless other civil engineering landmarks. By the time he was done he’d elevated the entire engineering profession in America. 1-Continuing Education Credit will be awarded. Please join us.
